What you are seeing is expected behavior and I don't think it should change
unless there is a refactor features added (which would rock!). What you
should do instead is find 'MREQ' and replace it with 'REQ ' (note the space
after the Q. That should give you the results you are looking for (at least
it will keep your D specs from becoming un-aligned)

I searched for MREQ and replace it with REQ.  All my D specs that were
replaced shifted and became invalid.  Can RSE do a search and replace and
NOT SHIFT the other data.
