Hi Vadim, Here is what I can tell you: - I have WDSc Enterprise on my laptop, with Windows XP, SP2, with 1 GB RAM. - I have installed all required PTFs on the iSeries, which is in V5R1 (sorry, I was wrong in my previous message, I told my system was in V4R5, but we have several servers, and the one we use currently is in V5R1). - I have installed all fixpacks for WDSc. Because I had this error, I have reinstalled entirely WDSc and tried without the Fixpacks. The behavior is the same with or withour the fixpack. - I can edit, compile, run, etc. COBOL, CL, RPG programs without major problems. When I start a debug session (batch program, COBOL or CL), I see the program starting. Sometimes it even does not start. After a while, I have the following message on screen: Sometimes, the system blocks when I try to monitor a variable. Next, when I close WDSc, all resources accessible through my network card are unreacheable (MS Exchange, intranet connection, internet connection, shared drives, etc.). I am not able to disable / enable the network card. Usually I cannot successfully shutdown the workstation, so I have to press the "OFF" button manually. Note that I have two network cards on this workstation (wired and wireless), and none seems to work. My opinion is that the TCP/IP stack is dead. I thought the integrated firewall of SP2 was the cause, but the problem still happens when it is disabled. I have tried exactly the same operations on another workstation which runs Windows 2000, WDSc 5.1.2 without service pack, and everything runs well. Here is how I start the debugger: In RSE, I select the program to debug, and select the option "Debug (prompt) -> Batch". Next, I start the debug process. The program starts, and usually the source file is available. The debugger stops at the first execution line. Next, I can perform several step by step executions, and suddenly nothing happens and after some seconds, the message "Continue waiting for engine to respond ?". I can answer yes or no, but the second message is always the same : "communication failure". At this point, all my TCP/IP connections are dead. The time this problem occurs is not always the same: sometimes the program even does not have time to start, sometimes I can step through some lines. Usually the problem happens also if I want to monitor a variable. The debugger is started the same way on the Windows 2000 workstation. I hope this can help you (and me...). Hi Jerome, Could you tell me a bit more about the debugger problems that you are having. If I understand your note correctly, you are using WDSC 5.1.2 connecting to a V4R5 system. How do you start the debugger? Thanks, Vadim. Please respond to Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries Hello, Yes, I confirm that this is possible, we do it everyday and it works fine. Just make sure you have the latest PTF level. You can edit, check syntax, run, and debug any kind of source file on an iSeries in V4R5M0. The only issue we have does not seem to be related to the OS400 version. When we use the debugger, we very often have a "communication failure" message, which completly crashes the TCP/IP stack of the workstation. There is no other solution but rebooting the workstation. This happens on a PC with Windows XP SP2, even if the firewall is deactivated. Works fine on a W2K PC. If someone has the same issue, any advice is welcome.
