There is a benefit of storing your custom logicals in a separate library. They will be clearly identified when you run a DSPLIBDEP. Remember you MUST delete these extra logicals before performing a System21 PTF uplift, otherwise the PTF will fail when it tries to delete and recreate the parent physical. Once the PTF uplift is complete you can then recreate the user defined logicals. Richard Caldicott Director of Implementations & Efficiency Tandy Brands Accessories 817-548-0090 extn 146 </TA=LE> You should just store the logicals in the library with the phys=cals. Then the restore will work and you wont have to wo=ry about juggling library lists. If you have a=ultiple environment situation, you probably have a consolidat=d data file library anyway. -Mike -----Ori=inal Message----- From: Prill, Steve [mailto:sprill@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesda=, September 14, 2005 7:39 AM To: System 21 Users S=bject: RE: [SYSTEM21] Creating PF's or LF's Bill, <=TT> The IBM Redbook "Geac System 21 - Implementation for AS/400" is=n excellent resource http:/www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg2=5967.html and has great examples of naming conventions. =ee Chapter 11 (Customization) and page 390 for specifics. <=TT> One other thing to consider is if you create logicals over Syst=m 21 physicals you might want to have custom libraries with a =ame that is lower in the iSeries sorting order. <T=>Our custom libraries all start with the first letter of 'Z'. The re=son for this is in the event of system restore resulting from = disaster, a disaster test, hard drive failure, etc. when you =estore your libraries it is generally done via a RSTLIB *NONSY= or some equivalent method. These methods restore the librarie= alphabetically starting with 'A'. The restore can not restore=ogical files if the physicals do not already exist on the system. </TT= In our case all of the System 21 and other libraries will be resto=ed before any of our custom 'Z' libraries. I h=pe this makes sense as it is a very important concept. Worst case is that if you did not use this library naming convention you wou=d have to manually recreate or restore all of your logicals af=er everything else was restored in a disaster. However, =ou usually have plenty of other things to keep you busy in a d=saster and this would delay recovery. Steve Prill =enior I.S.
