Yes - the original J, B & A (Johnston, Brown & Associates) were Australian,
but the only traces of those days are in the darker corners of the code in
GL and PL. JBA (UK), which became JBA plc, lost the last vestigial Aus
shareholding I think about 1983.

When the AS/400 was due to be announced in 1988, there was much speculation
as to what it was going to be called. JBA was splitting off its product
development division into a separate company (thoughts of separate selling
and production organisations having separate "brands"). On the basis that
1988 was an Olympic year, and what we now know as the AS/400 might be
called Olympic, JBA called the production company Olympic, and so libraries
are OSLxxx.

"Silverlake" was another possible name, and that was grabbed by someone
else on the same principle. JBA's affiliate in New Zealand picked up the
Olympic name there for much the same reasons I believe.

Hope this rambling from the memory of an old man (I was there) helps.

Wow, can't we just all get along!

For the record, wasn't JBA roots from Australia and not the UK: OSL -
Olympic Software Limited?

Another thing Jeff is forgetting is that the US is not the centre of the
universe. I believe JBA has a large number of its sites in the UK (and the
rest of the world for that matter), and was written there. Where better to
have the support?

Geac has for some years used Answerlink based in Atlanta to support their
ex
D&B software, SmartStream, on a world wide basis and had no issues.

And by the way, Canada is not "a subject of the British Monarchy" but is a
constitutional monarchy, much the way a number of ex-British colonies are,
with their own federation of government. Basically I would think that the
Queen would be technically Queen Elizabeth the first of Canada (as opposed
to QEII of England) is that would be the only link. So it would be a
subject
of the Canadian Monarchy if anything ...
