Be very careful about overlaying any profile or parameter files. PTF's often add or change records in these files, especially parameters. Steve-- P.S. - Another method of letting users know that they are in the test environment, if you have a test "world" (I.E. test IPG* libs), is to go into Administration Functions in your test environment then Maintain Company Parameters and change the company name to something like '***** System 21 3.5.2B Test World *******'. This will then show up at the top of each menu. -----Original Message----- From: plynch@sunflowermfg.com [mailto:plynch@sunflowermfg.com] Sent: Thursday, December 14, 2000 3:51 PM To: JBAUSERS-L@midrange.com Subject: Creating a Test Company based on Live Company Files Sunflower needs to syncronize the test environment with the live environment on a weekly basis. This need is extremely critical right now because we're testing SP3 for 3.5.2b. Does anyone out there have, or know of, a utility that performs this task cleanly? Currently we have a program that runs a series of SQL statements that does most of the job but it is not clean enough or reliable enough to permit a full blown test. Part of the issue is the fact that not all files prefix their company number fields with "CONO". During the copy we convert the live company number to a different test company number so users are fully aware when they are in the test environment. We'd like to run the live and test side as close to parallel as possible to facilitate efficient testing of this, and subsequent, service packs. Having a reliable utility for this would really cut down on some of the pain of uplifting. Patricia Lynch Sunflower Mfg. Co., Inc.
