I can understand your confusion over the licensing issue. Given the history of System 21 sales in Australia, I can confirm that your only protection against having to buy additional licences when performing hardware upgrades, is likely to be in the original contract that you negotiated. I can't answer for the protection this contract offers under the new GEAC regime. The 'by the book' method for JBA licensing, not very often adhered to if they wanted to win the business, is based on a minimum number of users for a particular processor and costed across all modules installed by the total number of users ie. NOT the number of users for any particular module eg. 4 x General Ledger users only. Some Examples are listed below:- AS400 9402 Model 400 2130 15 users 2131 25 2132 35 2133 45 9406 Model 500 2140 35 2141 45 2142 55 Model 510 2143 70 2144 95 Model 520 2150 120 2151 170 2152 230 2153 320 2162 370 Model 600 2129 20 2134 30 2135 45 2136 55 Model 620 2179 60 2180 85 2181 170 2182 250 Model S20 2161 70 2163 100 2165 180 2166 250 When the new 720 family was introduced there were no new matrices provided and the instruction was to look to the comparable CPW IBM performance rating to find the nearest older model minimum user count. It should comes as no surprise that GEAC plan to enforce this methodology whenever possible to bolster licensing revenue outside of new sales opportunities. Hope this at least answers some questions even though it does not provide any definitive solutions to your concerns.
