  • Subject: RE: JBA technical documentation

I spent countless hours entering test data and determining the possible
values of various status fields by looking at the contents of files during
various steps of these processes. I was directing several contract
programmers adding applications to wrap around standard JBA and they needed
to know how you could tell if an item was backordered, or a line had been
cancelled, or an order was on hold, etc. My personal experimentation was
not a very efficient way to get this critical information, although some 3rd
party File Editing Utilities made this process a little more bearable. I
also did a mediocre job of documenting what I learned during these
investigations. I constantly overestimated what I would recall months
later.

I really can't imagine any major ERP package being as lacking in technical
documentation, or having code as poorly written as JBA. That said, my
experience has been that JBA is relatively stable compared to some other
systems like BPCS and JDE OneWorld.

Explorer comes with a viewer, but supposedly there is an
Access database you can purchase that lists "where used"
cross reference type of info. I don't know whether it
documents "status fields", speaking of which can Dan Bale
elaborate on a few examples of status fields for which he
is looking for info? Internal program fields, or status
fields like order line status (STAT55 / OEP55) where 'X'
means the line was cancelled?<<

Sorry I forgot to respond to your query...

Yes, I am looking for information on "status fields like
order line status (STAT55 / OEP55)".

How did you determine "where 'X' means the line was
cancelled"?
