PS: It is possible to IPL your system by setting the system values right, calling the AS400 modem, waiting 15 sec after it answers, then hang up. The system will power down. Scary huh? -----Original Message----- From: Bale, Dan [mailto:Dan.Bale@handleman.com] Sent: Monday, October 15, 2001 11:51 AM To: security400@midrange.com Subject: RE: [Security400] Re: QSRV able to PWRDWNSYS? This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] You know, that's a good question. At first, it seemed obvious to me that they should have the authority, but now that I've had a chance to think about it, I seem to recall that I had to power down for a CE several years ago. It's just a real pain when the system in question is hundreds of miles away as it was yesterday (Sunday), and I have to drive in to sign on to the system, PWRDWNSYS, and sign off. Forty-five minutes wasted. Oh well, that's why I love this job, right? <g> Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 D.Bale@Handleman.com > -----Original Message----- > From: neilp@dpslink.com [SMTP:neilp@dpslink.com] > Sent: Monday, October 15, 2001 2:36 PM > To: security400@midrange.com > Subject: [Security400] Re: QSRV able to PWRDWNSYS? > > You've never had a CSR/CE/whatever take down a system without asking ? > ;-) > I think it's a good idea they don't have authority to PWRDWNSYS. > > Object . . . . . . . : PWRDWNSYS Owner . . . . . . . : QSYS > Library . . . . . : QSYS Primary group . . . : > *NONE > Object type . . . . : *CMD > > Object secured by authorization list . . . . . . . . . . . . : > *NONE > > Object > User Group Authority > QSYS *ALL > QSYSOPR *USE > *PUBLIC *EXCLUDE > > > ...Neil > _______________________________________________ This is the Security Administration on the AS400 / iSeries (Security400) mailing list To post a message email: Security400@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/security400 or email: Security400-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/security400.
