I got your point; as I said, there are different philosophies out there for
IDEs. As a matter of fact, those based on Eclipse work like containers for
views that one can blow out as you explained and that's a great feature
undoubtedly. VSC, not to be confused with VS, is primarily an editor and
it's not tied to any language in particular so most of the job is done by
extensions. Yes, the space dedicated to each view in the left (or right )
pane is not much, especially when many of them are in place, but I think it
may be a question of preferences or habits; also when you have long lists
of members or files, you name it, there are other cozy features that come
to help: for instance when on those lists you can start typing and names
that match your typing will be highlighted and even filtered on demand so
the list will decrease.

So far the outline view is missing in this extension but I hope there will
be sooner or later.

To me, it's just easier to use and lighter.

Mine are not judgments on which tool is better, just general
considerations.
