Have to strongly disagree with you, James. ILE RPG is very C-like but when
I talk about this. I am not talking about OPM or RPG IV. I am talking about
writing a modern 100% Free RPG.
Languages like Pascal or Modula 2 don't have pointers and dynamic memory
allocation. C and RPG ILE do.

*Java* is like "a cleaned up C." Or a cleaned up C++. Or a cleaned up
version of any of the lesser-known object-oriented C variants.
And not even assembler (or MI, on midrange systems) comes close to C's
tendency to give you enough rope to hang yourself, and then help you tie
the noose.
