As to freedom only in calcs - while it is great to have free-form declarations calcs is where I found the real benefit.
I understand your point.
I have been programming in PHP, C, Perl, Unix-shell, not much Pascal and HyperCard. The common thing is, all these languages are free-form. In a way, boring. Positional RPG is completely different and still feels new and novel to me. Sometimes more cumbersome (nested IFxx) but it certainly has it's own beauty.
I understand that for a professional programmer, other properties count.
