Under the covers RPG400 uses the single CMPNV MI instruction to do the whole thing. The curious can take Brabara's code and compile with GENOPT(*LIST) then look for the relevant BRK statement.

The docs for CMPNV state that it will "Assign a value to each of the indicator operands (indicator form)." in other words all of the indicators receive a new value - but it might be the same value that was there before.

I am SO happy we got rid of that horrible crap in RPG IV. It will however remain a mystery to me as to why those programs still exist - let alone get maintained rather than converted!

Basically, it implies the last condition tested will turn on or off
the indicator. So an indicator could be turned on and then subsequently off.
Hence the guideline to use different indicators.

The question is: what is the order of the testing by the system?
