Barbara,

if you add the (e) extender, you still can trap the error with the monitor
group?!
monitor;
reade(e) key file;
ok = *on;
on-error 1218: // record lock
// try again
endmon;

I thought you need to check the %Status if the E-Extender is set.
ReadE(e) Key File;
If %Status = '1218'; // Record Lock
//Error lock - Do something
EndIf;

Retry as long as the record is locked
DoU %Status <> 1218;
ReadE(E) Key File;
EndDo;

If the (E) Extender is not set, you need to trap the error with a monitor
group.
Monitor;
ReadE Key File;
On-Error 1218;
//Record Lock - Do something
EndMon;

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

Birgitta Hauser

Instead of letting the error go to MSGW, you could add some
exception-handling to your program so you could do the retry in the program
itself.

ok = *off;
dow not ok;
monitor;
reade(e) key file;
ok = *on;
on-error 1218: // record lock
// try again
endmon;
enddo;
