Booth, you cannot specify a Host Variable (:TIMESTAMP) on the ORDER BY clause of static, embedded SQL. This might have some bearing on your second issue. This limitation is one reason why some folk use dynamic SQL.

As to your first issue, without seeing the remainder of your SQL statement, it is difficult to suggest a reason.

Hope this helps.
Brian.

I have a file with a timestamp field which quite often has a value 0001-01-01.  I want to select all records in the file, in descending order for that timestamp.

First issue:  Only records greater than 0001-01-01 are being returned.

Second issue: no records are returned if I use "order by :timestamp desc"
