I'd be shocked if XMLTABLE, which uses a SET based approach, doesn't
perform faster.

I haven't used XMLTABLE yet. But I'm a little perplexed about mapping
hierarchically structured "documents" to "tables". Vern indicated that he
would be populating about 13 tables from apparently one XML document.
