I believe you but I don't understand you. What is the win he will gain by using a DS array? I admit, I have never understood the win/gain of the qualified keyword.

That works Booth - but it doesn't meet the OP's original requirement that it be a DS array. You're using a group field defined as an array.

fwiw, this code:

D ds
D data dim(100)
D numbr1 11s 2 inz(1) overlay(data)
D numbr2 11s 2 inz(2) overlay(data: *next)
/FREE
nField = %xfoot(numbr1);
wString = %editc(nField: 'N');
dsply wString;
nField = %xfoot(numbr2);
wString = %editc(nField: 'N');
dsply wString;

gave me this result:
DSPLY 100.00
DSPLY 200.00
