Old - Timer ? Moi ?
I started on S3 Model 10, am now on an AS400 (or whatever IBM wants it called this week).
Not a newbie, but a mature and experienced developer / business analyst with a wealth of business knowledge as well as an MBA.
And I still use the RPG cycle in many batch programs - why bark when you own a dog...

They did. New computer replaced it. It was also a bit tight in the
room itself. Maybe they had a sledge hammer party. Although I doubt
it. Not a lot of room to swing the thing.

If the only access was a spiral staircase, You already know why they left
the S/36 down there. Did anyone even know what it was?

Several years ago, I visited a bank to assist in performing a security
audit. Everybody knew QSECOFR password. Only one person knew LAN
administrator password.........
Computer was on lower level. In same room was an S/36. Only way out
was a spiral staircase. I keep wondering how they got the newer
computer down there. They referred to it as "AS/400". And, why they
left the S/36 there.
Another of life's mysteries.....

I recall windows being taken out of a 4th floor data center to get a newmailing list
AC unit delivered. It almost did not make it, talk about a tug-of-war.
And when moving a S/38 down the hall we had to stand it on end to get
around a corner.
