Works great first time -pain to constantly update the letter text which for use is almost daily because of the number of letters we have. I would prefer a mailmerge solution that would let a user department edit the letter text, add the variables where they belong and not need to play with the document every time they change it. Can anyone say OfficeVision/400 :)

You can use CGIDEV2 to do it.
1. Create your word document and save it as the new DOCX format, which is
just XML.
2. Edit the XML in notepad or whatever you like, and add in the CGIDEV2
tags for what you want.
3. Copy DOCX file to IFS.
4. Use CGIDEV2 to insert the needed data based on tags you inserted.
I do this all the time for Excel. works great.

Re: RPG Word Mail Merge
Hi
We currently use a visual basic program to mailmerge data from the as400
with word documents stored on our network.. This works well but a pain
when changing versions of word, and we would like to move to something
better.
.
We currently use the apache POI api's to create excel documents using RPG,
which works very well, (thanks Scott).
Is anyone using the apache HWPF api which I understand will create word
documents. I'm not sure this is even working yet.
Any suggestions on how to mailmerge word documents using RPG would be
appreciated.
Regards,
Darrell
