We just switched from doing something very similar. The process was
changed to save the word "templates" in XML format and CGIDEV2 was used
to populate the data. I believe Jon Paris wrote an article on it. The
best part was the docs are created entirely on the i without any
reliance on word during the creation process.

Subject: Re: RPG Word Mail Merge

Hi

We currently use a visual basic program to mailmerge data from the as400
with word documents stored on our network.. This works well but a pain
when changing versions of word, and we would like to move to something
better.
.
We currently use the apache POI api's to create excel documents using
RPG, which works very well, (thanks Scott).

Is anyone using the apache HWPF api which I understand will create word
documents. I'm not sure this is even working yet.

Any suggestions on how to mailmerge word documents using RPG would be
appreciated.

Regards,

Darrell
