Blake;

Yes you can save/restore binding directories.

The question to ask yourself is "Are we going to let the *LIBL decide where the service program resides or are we going to hard code the library name in the binding directory?"

I do both, for application specific service programs they are put into the production library(s) and the binding directory contains *LIBL for the library name. We have several general purpose service programs and/or open source which reside in a service library (MCSERV) which is promoted to all of our production boxes. The binding directory for the GP service programs is contained in the application libraries but has the library hard coded to MCSERV, the service library, which is not in anyone's *LIBL.

Subject: Service programs and binding directories question

Hello all....

Going through the process of incorporating service programs and binding directories to our ILE development (finally), and we've got a question.

Our current development system has all our development on a separate iSeries machine where we do our dev and Q/A work. Once Q/A is signed off, new development objects are moved to the production system.

The question is - can binding directories be saved and restored from our dev box to our production box? I am assuming yes (it should just be another object), but would like to verify.

Have a good day.
