The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.
It is indeed the new stuff that leads the way to RPGILE.
We where a RPG shop in 1999 when we said to one of our customers that we could
build interactive websites on the AS/400 as an reply on their question if we
could assist on creating an interface to download stuff to an PC to do the same.
We only new it could be done but had never done it.
We got the project to proof that we could and the RedBook plunged us in the
world of RPGILE.
It proved to be not at all that different (you can just program alike and the
learning curve was less than three weeks for the average developer) Since then
new stuff that we can imagine (OK we have a rich imagination) to be done,
every-time has driven our way further into using the possibilities of RGPILE
(and indeed we now have internships with people fighting with the limits what
actually can be done on the iSeries).
Perhaps you have to ask your Boss to the limits of its imagination what he
would like to do on the iSeries.
Do not let him limit his imagination to what he/she things can be done on the
iSeries.
If his/here imagination is worth his/here position you get all the arguments to
start using ILE.
Eduard.

<snip>There are just some
things that I've not seen done without ILE. Examples include:
- Scott Klement's IFS APIs
- Calls to java to read/write pretty Excel files directly.
- Calls to java to access SQL Server data.
</snip>
to add to that list...I've never seen CGIDEV2 or any other CGI stuff done
without ILE...can it be done? I'm sure it can but I'd hate to be the one
coding it....
Thanks,
Tommy Holden

Ask her how she would convince someone to move from RPGII to RPGIII.
Subfiles. We already have templates to put arrays into fields on the
screen.

But where the rubber meets the road is new functionality.
What actually will get you that new functionality? There are just some
things that I've not seen done without ILE. Examples include:
- Scott Klement's IFS APIs
- Calls to java to read/write pretty Excel files directly.
- Calls to java to access SQL Server data.
