Which Redbook are you looking at? I see one that included Birgitta in
the authors.

As far as I know, there are no generated F-specs from the
preprocessor - look at the compile listing - you will see an SQLDA
but no F-specs - unless you put them there.

I was looking at "iSeries Embedded SQL Programming V5R3". I can't find
the list of authors. I think you're right about the generated F-specs,
I'm re-reading the section I was looking at yesterday and I think I
misinterpreted it - a case of the "Mondays" I think :)

So, as you say in another post, you do opens and closes manually -
that's fine, except that they have nothing to do with SQL tasks. So
don't confuse the 2 things - not related. If you put in an F-spec,
you have to use the native I/O opcodes.

I've been revisiting this problem this morning - I think that it might not
be an SQL problem at all! In fact, I saw that the file was "open" (by
sql), and figured that's why I was getting an error on my RPG OPEN opcode.
In fact, it was that UPDPROD = *NO, and my development lib is *PROD
(don't ask me why). I haven't had to think about this lately, but the
"Update production files" option needed to be set for the new version of
WDSC. That's what I get for not checking carefully enough before posting.
Oh well, at least I've learned some things about Embedded SQL that might
be handy in the future.

Sorry to waste time - thanks again for all the great responses.
Adam
