SQL statement help

The following statement executes fine... however, I want results based on 
QDINST not being found in BANKINST... I simply tried changing "IN" to "NOT 
IN" and it didn't like it... any suggestions?


 SELECT DISTINCT QDSTCD CONCAT DIGITS(QDAREA) CONCAT DIGITS(QDBANK)   
FROM BRDETAIL WHERE QDDGRP = 'DEP' AND QDVERI = 'N' AND QDCLVL = '5' 
AND QDINST IN(SELECT QIINST FROM BANKINST)
