No offence to Bob's method, but why use this: YYMMDD = %Dec(%date(CCYYMMDD: *ISO0):*YMD); when you could simply use an overlay: D DateDS DS D CCYYMMDD 8A D YYMMDD 6S 0 Overlay(CCYYMMDD:3) Move your 8-character date into CCYYMMDD and voila - YYMMDD contains your 6-digit numeric date. In fact, you don't need *any* C-specs at all if you have the YYMMDD overlay defined over the actual 8-character date. Rory
