If all you intend to do is strip out the 6 digit portion of the character date, 
you could do something like:

C                       Eval     NumDate6 = %Dec(%subst(CharDate8:3:6):6:0)

Or, you could do this in a data-structure...

D                 DS                  
D   CharDate8             1      8A   
D   NumDate6              3      8S 0

HI I searched the archives but could not find an ILE routine that will take an 
8 pos. character date and return a 6 numeric. At some point, the extra 2 are to 
be dropped.they are the left most so we are going from a CCYYMMDD to a YYMMDD.
   
  I would like to use Procedure for this.
