Phil, One solution is to use DSM, but we have found this cumbersome and
overloaded with API's I recall a type of display file called a user defined display file - and I am looking for someone who may have had experience using this.
Actually, using DSM *is* the simpler way to do it. When you don't use DSM, you must create the exact 5250 data stream yourself. There are lots of nuances to getting that right, at least when you include input fields. Output only formats aren't so bad, but IMHO you should still use DSM. DSM was created for the express purpose of making it easier to dynamically generate screen formats. Since you are evidently not familiar with both methods, I'd suggest you learn DSM instead of the 5250 data stream specifications. FWIW, the last I knew the 5250 data stream documentation was in the 5494 Functions Reference Manual. You will need that as your close companion if you decide to pursue the UDDS route. However, I strongly encourage you to use DSM instead. Doug
