I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. It is a Iseries shop, true blue. Old school. I was told to do a data dictionary. Now, I did create it, but am not sure what to do with it. The PF is not going to relate to it on the REF line. A REF(REFFILE) this is for a file. The dd is not a file. Michael Ryan <michaelrtr@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: And sure enough...it went... To the geezers - GO IDDU!!!! And that is not a cheer for Indiana Drop Dead University! -------------- Original message -------------- From: "Crispin Bates"The last time I used a *DTADCT on the iSeries was when working in S/36 mode (that was a quick in/out and run gig). It basically allows you to define fields for s/36 flat (program described) files so that you can then use things like query/dfu etc. to access the data as fields instead of one large field. I can't remember well, but you may even be able to use the data dictionary to cause the compiler to treat the file as externally described, but can't be sure of that. A *DTADCT, while conceptually similar to, is not the same as a field reference file by any means. A *DTADCT causes the system to present the flat file as a file with fields. At least that's my recollection...
