Hi Jim,
you should take a look at the QUSRJOBI API in the IBM docs at 
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/index.htm?info/apis/qusrjobi.htm

This API provides you the information, if the job is interactive or in 
batch.

But don't ask for an example, I never used it :)
