RE: Date range

An ugly way (IMO) to do this would be to write a utility program (or
service program) to handle all the date logic & modify the base code to
call the routines as needed.  But I have to say that with date calcs in
RPG IV I'd have to ask why add all that extra complexity when a few line
changes can fix the code properly.

I don't know if this is an appropriate follow-up, but has anyone
modernized/re-written an old RPG based system w/ such a task list as in
the this email, given serious consideration to moving to date types,
etc. what other moves could be made w/in a context of keeping the basic
code but improving on it on a systems wide level.

I won't argue that point one bit.  I have said several times that we (my
company) needs to give serious consideration to moving to date types and
start using at the very least, ISO date types in everything.  You can
always
display a six digit date on a display file if there is a space issue,
and so
far its not happened.

What's odd though, is that if you look at a true *MDY date type the low
value is 01/01/40 and the hi value is 12/31/39.  We know this means 1940
through 2039, but it could really be confusing, and possibly disastrous,
if
using *MDY dates as ranges.
