Better to spend the time to "fix" the dates to 8 byte numerics or preferrably a true date field & prevent the misery that will come later. Convince them that they may be facing another Y2K type deal in the future if it doesn't get done...it's far better to spread the cost over a period of years than one huge frigging chunk at one time... Won't they?? Johnny Johnson wrote:
What's odd though, is that if you look at a true *MDY date type the
low
value is 01/01/40 and the hi value is 12/31/39. We know this means
1940
through 2039, but it could really be confusing, and possibly
disastrous, if
using *MDY dates as ranges. Johnny Johnson Hub Group, Inc.

Our friend Mr. Manual can! Number of Digits in Year Range
of
Years 2 (*YMD, *DMY, *MDY, *JUL) 1940 to 2039 3 (*CYMD, *CDMY, *CMDY) 1900 to 2899 4 (*ISO, *USA, *EUR, *JIS, *LONGJUL) 0001 to 9999 On 12/7/06, Douglas Palme <dpalme@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Can someone tell me what the max range is for a MDY date? IE: 1900 -
2020
Some of our programs still use six digit dates (Yes, I know we should
be
converting them but that's not my decision and considering the number
of
programs involved it would take a huge amount of time and resources)
and
Ineed to trap for max dates that are allowable in a *USA format but
are
invalid for a *MDY
