XML and AS400

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how I can read and write XML documents on an AS400
environment using RPG400, I'm a newbie about AS400 so I want to know if it's
possible.

These are the AS400 characteristics:

OS: OS400 4.4

Languages and utilities: RPG400, CL400 ILERPG, ILECL, RLU, PDM, SDA, SEU.

Basically, I want to generate a XML document that could be read by any
system, the thing is that my customer has an AS400, the IT department of my
customer says that any version before iSeries can't process XML documents,
but I'm not completely sure about that, because I haven't work on AS400,
never.

I was researching and I found out a data translation application that
converts data from XML format to AS400 database format and from AS400
database format to XML (Alliance XML/400), on this link
http://www.patownsend.com/XML.htm. I just want to know if it's helpful in
this case and I know of course that I should try it out. Have you ever used
this application?

Also, any link, tutorial or whatever resource about AS400 will be fully
appreciable.
