I'm not arguing that it's better as it is...yes they could have backward
compatible & current/useful version.  However, like I said it's highly
unlikely

While this certainly a valid concern, would it be so difficult to

qualify the DS, and give the fields names that don't make my code next

It might also be nice if the API documentation explicitly mentioned the 
file name of the corresponding copy member.
