I've heard this argument before.

I don't buy it.

First off, you can get an 3GHz class machine for much less than $1,000. Here's
an Athlon 64bit 3200+ w/1GB RAM from HP for $700.
http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/MiddleFrame.asp?page=config&ProductLineId=429&FamilyId=2045&BaseId=15121&oi=E9CED&BEID=19701&SBLID=

or http://tinyurl.com/83njf

Secondly, I've never heard of a Windows developer who had problems getting a
new PC to run Microsoft's latest and greatest.

The productivity of WDSC makes for a quick ROI given the low cost of new
hardware.

I think that the argument is simply an excuse used by developers who don't want
to leave their comfort zone.
