just for fun, can you put good data in two of the cells?  Use upddta or
whatever, but see if anything changes.

Yes, that was my first thought.... if you think data in the physical file
on the iSeries.
 
Normally a query on a file will show if anything is wrong with data in the
fields, but nothing showed up. Btw. the data in the error-fields is empty,
but many of the other fields that updates correct is empty too.

That says to me that you have a data issue.  Have you looked at the raw
data?  The answer is always in the data.
