Interesting. Now how do I go about sending a retraction email to the rest of the team when I got excited and told them all the compiler was going away..... Maybe none of them will read it lol. You write for the rag. What's the source of the announcement? As best I can tell Rob it was a combination of wishful thinking combined with a small misunderstanding of what George Farr meant when he said during a COMMON presentation that "RPG/400 is dead ... D . E . A . D ." (or words to that effect). Those remarks were taken as a statement of IBM's intent to discontinue the compiler. As a result of George's remarks, the demise of the RPG/400 compiler was suggested as a topic for the magazine poll - and instead of the poll saying "What would be the effect IF ...." it was phrased a little more "crisply" ..... Personally I think it is a wonderful idea ... or at least that there should be an additional charge for using it ... but while IBM have undoubtedly thought about that, it is not on the immediate horizon as far as I know. Made for an interesting thread though hasn't it <grin> Jon Paris Partner400 www.Partner400.com www.RPGWorld.com -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
