Doug, As others have suggested, I feel, the embedded sql will reduce the amount of work involved in this scenario. You could use the dynamic sql and open cursors with condition and fetch result set into the subfile. The code for the total can also be done in 1 aggregate statement than several rpg codes. On a work file, the creation of the file and I/O could be more CPU intense than an embedded sql.
