Lazy is not bad. Some of the best programmers I ever met were also some of the laziest. Like you, before writing code they try to find out if someone else has already solved the problem at hand. In fact, I read a story about a guy who owned a manufacturing plant. He had one very smart employee that was extremely lazy. Every time they determined that there was a bottleneck in a production line/process in the plant, they would put this lazy guy in the job, because invariably he would figure out a more efficient way to do the job, and thus fix the bottleneck.
