I'm not arguing that a program with hundreds of open files is not a candidate for better design, but there is at least one area where understanding the limitations in advance is very helpful. The RPG III limit of 50 files seemed rather large, but there are CASE tools which reached this limit all too easily. When that happens, it's often a fair amount of work to change the way the CASE tool generates that code, so it's a good idea to know in advance when that might happen. --buck
