It may be bug ugly, but have you thought about using stored procedures? For instance you can do /end-free C/EXEC SQL C+ CALL MYPROC :EitherOr C/END-EXEC /free And you can create stored procedures with the sql CREATE PROCEDURE and it can call one subprocedure from your service program if it is numeric and yet another if it is character. Therefore the overloading is done in the PROCEDURE and not in the RPG itself.
