Ross, Why not pass two parameters to the procedure, one numeric, the other alpha. Pass them with *OMIT and test that in the procedure. But then I wonder, what you want to accomplish. If the source is not actually known, then anything can be passed, with different lengths as well. What is the procedure going to do with that?
