OTOH, have you ever explained to them that by using your own laptop (or their PC
which is not underpowered), that your productivity will be higher?  I routinely
use my own laptop at clients.

Of course, I wouldn't do that to a *new* client without talking to them about
it.  But they may just be ignorant to the benefit of a more powerful workstation
for developers.

And they may be very receptive to making you more productive, especially if the
project is T&M.
