There used to be an iSeries based package, years ago, that would allow you
to call some api's to directly update a Lotus spreadsheet stored under
QDLS. I think it was something like
parm1 = fully qualified file name
parm2 = row id
parm3 = column number
parm4 = value
We were "this close" to buying it and using it to update some financial
spreadsheets automatically.
Granted this is a lot different from the generate a load of rows most
people do with spreadsheets but maybe you need to find out if they are
actually looking at the detail, or the totals. Are they plugging those
totals into particular cells on the fancy spreadsheet? Then in theory you
could do this automatically and email out the finished product. And it
would look a lot prettier than the standard bulk row spreadsheet.

Subject: RE: AS400 to EXCEL
Creating an Excel file isn't a simple thing. Excel (and Word and probably
Power Point) use what's called an "OLE2 Compound Document Format" file
which is basically a file version of a COM object. Creating one of these
files is extremely complicated. I think there are third part programs that
can do this (I couldn't tell you names off the top of my head). If you
know Java and you don't want to spend money on it, you can use an Apache
package called POI to do Word and Excel.

Subject: RE: AS400 to EXCEL
Hi all:
I did find a lot interesting things @ midrange regarding converting PF
to
an Excel file. But still a few questions remain:
Using CPYTOIMPF, I was able to create Source Member containing
formatted
data i.e. character strings in ' " ' and numbers separated by ' , '.
But I would like to generate an Excel file from this member without any
human intervention i.e. programmatically. How do I achieve that?
Please advise.
