The RPG IV Reference (V5R1) Chapter 8, "Defining Data and Prototypes", Constants, Literals, Character literals has this to say: "Character literals must be enclosed in apostrophes ('). An apostrophe required as part of a literal is represented by two apostrophes. For example, the literal O'CLOCK is coded as 'O''CLOCK'." --buck
