Sunil, the short answer is that the IFS is nothing more or less than a 'PC' or ' *nix' style file system, much like your C: drive or a mapped network drive. It handles many different types of file systems (lotus notes, etc.), including the 'native' as/400 file/library structure. it looks, works and acts like any other disk file system. you can store stream files, pc applications, anything really. don't get caught up in the relationship between RPG and the IFS - at this time, in the grand scheme of things, RPG doesn't have much business working with IFS stuff - it's only when you start trying to 'seamlessly' integrating as/400 business logic with typical pc-style business stuff or when working with web applications in RPG do you need to even worry about the IFS. think of it as just another place on the network to store files, only they are on the as/400, and can be veiwed and manipulated there. hth, rick
