Jim, yeah, i know what you mean. I had only one occasion to use lookahead in 20 years, and i can't remember why I used it - probably just to try it out. I can't think of a good reason to use them now, especially when you consider that they don't work for update files - and only for primary or secondary files. the only reason I would want to use them is to do some sort of special processing on the current record and to be able to UPDATE it before relenquishing control of it, based on the value of the lookahead. regards, rick
