Bill, I guess we have to agree to disagree. I don't see any of those assumptions being based on facts from IBM but rather on outside expectations. That's certainly doesn't mean you are wrong and I am right. Interestingly, however, Microsoft and Borland both allow there compilers and development environments to be used on "old" versions of Windows. Eventually there are reasons they abandon the "old" releases, and I have no problem with that. If someone is still on V3R6, for example, too bad for them. There is no reason a compiler needs a specific release unless the compiler is using a new feature in that release to compile code. I don't see how making them compatible with all supported releases is a problem.
