Tom, you had to ask! The lurkers will be coming out of the woodwork for sure. My answer: if it's the right tool for the job, use it. There is no reason to avoid taking advantage of the logic cycle, and there's no reason you can't combine exception detail output and "Lx" logic (except it might look schizophrenic) if you need to. Anybody doing moderately sophisticated subfile or RPG-CGI programming has likely written control break logic (to create screen totals), so there shouldn't be any allure. There is no reason to stick with the logic cycle, either. The key is understanding both the logic cycle and the programming requirement well enough to choose the best option for the job. Let's see how many "Indicators are bad" knee-jerk responses you get... -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:rpg400-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Tom Daly Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 2:48 PM To: 'rpg400-l@midrange.com' Subject: RE: Renaming Fields in the D specs: why? A bit off subject maybe.... I'm curious as to how many people would code their own control breaks versus use the cycle. I'd use the cycle, myself. It's just a feature of the language and is very reliable.
