I personally would do one eval, you do not need the DS

d neweditedssnumber...
d s 13
c eval NEWEDITEDSSNUMBER =
c %trimR(%editw(SS:' - - '))

Unless of course you are not current enough on your OS to use these BIFS

The trim really is not needed in this circumstance, but it is a habit of
mine.

Otherwise do a substring instead of a mova

Not to mention, you should be moving to position 7, not 8 - to end up with
123-45-6789

Subject: Please help with arrays

I am trying to use a program that was writen by someone. I would like to
insert "-". E.g 111111111 would like to see 111-111-111. I run the prgram
but I get 111-111111. Can you please take a look at the code and let me know
what I am missing. Thanks in advance.

  * Use this array to insert the '-' in the id field.
  *
D SS S 1 DIM(11)

              D DS

D S3 4 5
D S5 6 9

c MOVEA S3 SS(5)
c MOVEA S5 SS(8)

C MOVEA '-' SS(4)
