Re: Position Cursor on a Display File


This works.  It isn't elegant.   You can place the cursor by Row & Column.  What we did was to write an error message for each filed we cared about.  The last positions of the error message were saved for the field's row and column.  When we needed to position the cursor we looked up an error message and substringed row and column.  It worked in the early 1980s so I'd expect it still works.

(I am not proud of this solution except that it solved the problem.)

I recently learned about positioning the cursor in a display file by using
the CSRLOC keyword and setting the field values to the desired line and
column before writing the display.

Does anyone know of a way to get these values based on field name in the
display file so that I will not have to hard code the row and column in my
program?  (outside of storing the value in a hidden field in the display
file as I have already been shown).

The purpose being to allow the fields to be moved around on the display file
without having to change the hard coded values for positioning the cursor.
