Yup, that is what you need to do, if you want to avoid hard coding the values in the program. You can *return* the field name where the cursor was located, but you can't set it by field name. Neither does a DSPATR( &pgmfield ) allow you to do the equivalent of a DSPATR(PC). The good news is that once you put it in a service program, it is pretty easy to use from RPG IV and you can all but eliminate indicators from your display files. Indicators are still necessary for things like subfile control keywords, etc. Doug
